المستخلص: This research aims to identify and identify the problems and challenges encountered by apprentice translators at the Department of French Language and Translation at King Saud University (FLT-URS) when translating a legal text from French into Arabic. We will address several themes relating to the translation field in general and that of legal translation in particular. Starting from the following themes: Specific character of legal translation, the problems inherent in the legal translation from French to Arabic, namely: (Legal language, dissimilarity of the cultural and legal systems, and problematic Arabic terminology), we pave the way for the evaluation of the work of apprentice translators by adopting a descriptive and analytical approach to analyze translation errors. The methodological tool used for our evaluation is Protocol No. 13 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, concerning the abolition of the death penalty in all circumstances.

La présente recherche vise l’identification et la circonscription des problèmes et défis rencontrés par les apprentis-traducteurs au Département de la Langue Française et de la Traduction à l’Université du Roi Saoud (FLT-URS) lors de la traduction d’un texte juridique du français vers l’arabe. Nous aborderons plusieurs thématiques relatives au champ traductologique en général, et à celui de la traduction juridique en particulier. À partir des thématiques suivantes: Caractère spécifique de la traduction juridique, les problèmes inhérents à la traduction juridique du français vers l’arabe, à savoir: (Langage juridique, dissemblance des systèmes culturel et juridique, et problématique de la terminologie arabe), nous pavons la voie à l’évaluation des travaux des apprentis-traducteurs en adoptant une approche descriptive et analytique pour analyser les erreurs de traduction. L’outil méthodologique servant à notre évaluation est le Protocole nº 13 portant sur la Convention de Sauvegarde des droits de l’Homme et de libertés fondamentales, relatif à l’abolition de la peine de mort en toutes circonstances.
