توصل الباحث إلى أن الصورة في اللغة العربية تستخدم للدلالة على الشكل، والهيئة، والحقيقة، والصفة، والخيال، فتأتي بمعنى التمثل، والميل، والتخيل، والإقبال، والتوهم، وغير ذلك، بحسب الاشتقاق، أو التصريف، وأن مصطلح الفن يستخدم للدلالة على الاطراد فيأتي بمعنى الألوان، والأغصان، وقد يستخدم للدلالة على أجناس الشيء، وطرقه، فيأتي بمعنى التنوع في الكلام، وأساليبه، وأجناسه. ويتضح للباحث أن النقاد العرب قد اختلفوا في تناولهم لمفهوم الصورة، كل بحسب فهمه لها، ووفق ما تمليه عليه أفكاره، ومذاهبه النقدية. إلا أن أغلبهم قد ركزوا على ربط الصورة في الجوانب الحسية، وما تحققه لها الانفعالات النفسية من تفاعل للمتلقي. وتوصل الباحث إلى أن الصورة الفنية هي: نتاج تفاعلية خيال المبدع مع ما يمتلكه من وحدة تركيبة، تتضافر فيها الفكرة، والعاطفة، والألفاظ، لتقديم المعنى بشكل مناسب، مع الكشف عن العلاقات المشتركة، التي تربط بين الأشياء المحسوسة، وغير المحسوسة، بالإيحاء، أو الرمز، ومن ثم إظهار العمل الأدبي بصورة كلية، تعبر عن تجارب المبدع، وانفعالاته، من خلال التشبيه، أو الاستعارة، أو الكناية، أو المجاز.
