ينظر البعض إلى الفلسفة البيئية عموما ومجموعة البحوث المرتبطة بها (مثل البحث والتساؤلات في مسألة حقوق الحيوانات والنباتات والمنظومات البيئية) على أنها من قبيل الترف الفكري، أو على الأقل ليست من القضايا الملحة علينا نحن أبناء البلدان النامية الذين في أمس الحاجة إلى تلبية حقوق الإنسان الأساسية المتنوعة.. ومن هذه التيارات الفكرية التي اهتمت بالبيئة التيار الذي يمثله "كانط" Kant (1724- 1804م)، وبالرغم من أن الأخلاق الكانطية ركزت على الواجب الإنساني إلا أن بعض الباحثين في الأخلاق البيئية يرون أننا نستطيع أن نجد في فلسفة "كانط" ما يمثل أخلاق بيئية، وذلك بالإشارة إلى أهمية الطبيعة في تعزيز استقلال إرادة الفرد، فالفرد عند "كانط" يسير الفرد في سلوكه على مقتضى قانون يفرضه على نفسه بإرادته الحرة العاقلة وهذا هو أساس استقلال قوانين الأخلاق عنده. وهذه القوانين تقدم واجبات تحث على أن يكون الإنسان يشفق على الضعيف، وتجنب القسوة والعنف، وهي الواجبات التي تؤسس سلوك الإنسان في حياته وبيئته التي يعيش فيها مع باقي الكائنات الحية. ومن التيارات الفكرية التي تتناول البيئية أيضا ما يطلق عليه علم الجمال البيئي وبالرغم من أن هذا التيار ظهر منذ أربعين عام فقط إلا أنه له جذور تاريخية ومنها رأي "كانط" بأن الجمال الطبيعي يتفوق على الجمال الفني. ومن هنا نؤكد على دور الفلسفة التطبيقية في حل المشكلات البيئية وتداعيتها على المجتمع والعالم كله وهو ما يوضح أهمية الدراسات متعددة التخصصات في تناول المشكلات التي يطرحها التقدم التكنولوجي والواقع المعاصر.
Some view environmental philosophy in general and the group of research associated with it (such as research and inquiries about the rights of animals, plants and ecosystems) as an intellectual luxury, or at least not among the pressing issues for us, children of developing countries, who desperately need to meet basic human rights. And among these intellectual currents that are concerned with the environment is the one represented by Kant (1724 - 1804 AD), and although Kantian ethics focused on the human duty, some researchers in environmental ethics believe that we can find in the philosophy of "Kant" what It represents an environmental ethic, by referring to the importance of nature in strengthening the independence of the will of the individual. According to Kant, the individual conducts his behavior according to a law that imposes on himself by his free and rational will, This is the basis for his independence of the laws of morality. These laws provide duties that urge that a person be pitying for the weak, and avoid cruelty and violence, and they are the duties that establish human behavior in his life and the environment in which he lives with the rest of living things. Among the intellectual doctrines that deal with the environment is also the so-called environmental aesthetics. Although this doctrine appeared only forty years ago, it has historical roots, including Kant’s view that natural beauty is superior to artistic beauty. Hence, we emphasize the role of applied philosophy in solving environmental problems and their repercussions on society and the world as a whole, which explains the importance of multidisciplinary studies in dealing with the problems presented by technological progress and contemporary reality.
