المستخلص: In a work published in 1895 and which was a real best-seller, Gustave Le Bon explains that the 'psychological crowds' are distinguished by the fact that they are endowed with a collective soul and that this soul is characterized by the fact of possessing specific characters. More concretely, he maintains that man is different according to whether he is isolated or a member of a crowd, and that this splitting can only be understood by linking it to the phenomenon of the unconscious. Finally, he adds that the relationship between the crowd and its leader strongly resembles that between the hypnotist and the hypnotized

Dans un ouvrage de 1895 et qui a été un véritable best-seller, Gustave Le Bon explique que les ‘foules psychologiques’ se distinguent par le fait d’être dotées d’une âme collective et que cette dernière se caractérise par le fait de posséder des caractères spécifiques. Plus concrètement, il y soutient que l’homme est différent selon qu’il est isolé ou membre d’une foule, et que ce dédoublement ne peut se comprendre qu’en le reliant au phénomène de l’inconscient. Enfin, il y ajoute que la relation entre la foule et son meneur ressemble fortement à celle qui s’instaure entre l’hypnotiseur et son hypnotisé
