تعد القضية القبرصية من أكثر القضايا تعقيدا وتأثيرا منذ بداية السبعينيات وحتى عصرنا الحاضر، إذ أن الأحداث التي عاشتها الجزيرة القبرصية من مشكلات سياسية وغيرها أصبحت في سجلات التاريخ السياسي الدولي الحديث والمعاصر، وبالرغم من أن هذه الجزيرة والتي تقع شرق البحر المتوسط فإنها كانت دوما محط نزاعات بين شقي سكانها الأتراك واليونانيين، وهذه النزاعات فتحت المجال أمام تدخلات دولية وإقليمية في هذه القضية. وفي ضوء ذلك فقد كان الموقف الليبي فاعلا إزاء تداعيات هذه القضية بدرجة أن قد تغلب على الموقف الأمريكية والدبلوماسية الأمريكية في حصر نتائج الانقلاب العسكري الذي شهدته الجزيرة عام ١٩٧٤، فكان الدور الليبي كبيرا في تحجيم دائرة الضرر بين الجانبين التركي واليوناني من خلال منطلق العلاقة التي تربطها مع طرفي النزاع، وهذا أزعج الجانب الأمريكي بشدة وكانت ردة فعله قوية تجاه الجانب التركي من خلال فرض حظر الأسلحة عنه، لكن التدخل الليبي بقوته الاقتصادية ساعد الجانب التركي في تخطي تلك العقبة.
The Cyprus issue is one of the most complex and influential issues since the beginning of the seventies until the present day, as the events that the Cyprus island lived through, including political and other problems, have become in the records of modern and contemporary international political history, and although this island, which is located in the eastern Mediterranean, it has always been the subject of disputes. Between the two parts of its population, the Turks and Greeks, these conflicts opened the way for international and regional interference in this issue. In light of this, the Libyan position was effective in dealing with the repercussions of this issue to the extent that it overcame the American position and the American diplomacy in limiting the results of the military coup that took place in the island in 1974, so the Libyan role was great in limiting the circle of damage between the Turkish and Greek sides through the basis of their relationship. With the two parties to the conflict, and this disturbed the American side severely, and it reacted strongly to the Turkish side by imposing an arms embargo on it, but the Libyan intervention with its economic strength helped the Turkish side to overcome that obstacle.
