Both English and Arabic include different suffixes. Diminutive suffixes are considered one of these suffixes. They are requested suffixes which are used for fulfilling different purposes. This study is accomplished to show the problem which students of both languages are suffering from it. At the same time, this study is a contrastive one which aims at: enabling students to distinguish diminutive suffixes used in Arabic and English. It also shows points of similarities and differences of diminutive forms in English and Arabic. The study includes four sections. The first section includes the problem, aims of study, limits of the study and value of the study. The second section introduces definitions of diminutive in the English language, kinds of affixes used for diminutive, the semantics of diminutive as well as diminutive and intimacy. It also introduces diminutive and smallness. The third section introduces definitions in Arabic, weights of diminutive, purposes of diminutive as well as conditions of nouns. The fourth section clarifies the comparison between diminutive forms in both English and Arabic highlighting points of similarity and difference. The paper ends with some references.
