|b The study of children’s language acquisition is a field that comprises a large body of literature, dating back well over one hundred years. To make sense of these works, however, is no easy task. One reason for this is that the topic is one without a discipline. There are virtually no university departments of language acquisition. Instead, we have language acquisition subfields of other areas such as linguistics, psychology, education, and communication disorders. However, this paper provides some definitions of first language acquisition. It talks about acquisition schedule that consists of six phases which are: crying, cooing, babbling, holophrastic, the two-words stage as well as telegraphic speech. On the other hand, caregiver speech is a type of conversational structure that seems to assign an interactive role to the young child even before he or she becomes a speaking participant. Furthermore, the study presents three basic theories of first language acquisition which are: behaviorist, innatist and interactionist theory. These theories concerned with the growth of child's language.
