المستخلص: يهدف هذا البحث إلى إبراز أثر الأدوات النحوية في التأويل من خلال دراسة لام التعريف (أل) التي يمكن أن تكون دلالة الاسم المعرف بها نسبية تاريخية (لام العهد)، أو مطلقة عامة (لام الجنس)، فتحديد نوع الأداة في الكلمة يؤثر في التأويل، وقد جرى استقراء تطور التنظير لمعاني أداة التعريف في المصادر اللغوية والنحوية والأصولية، ثم تتبع مدى مراعاة المفسرين احتمالاتها في تفسير الألفاظ القرآنية، ولا سيما مدلول لفظ (المشركين) في سورة التوبة أنموذجا.

This study focuses on the effects of grammatical Articles on textual interpretation by studying the case of the definitive article (al), which could refer to a historical and relative meaning (lām al-ʿahd - the article of familiarity), or to an absolute and general meaning (lām al-jins the Generic article). The determination of its meaning would affect meaning and interpretation. The article sheds light on the development of the theories about the meaning of this definite article in Arabic linguistic, grammatical and sources related to the Islamic creed. It investigates into the possible meanings of this article as viewed by the interpreters of the holy Quran and in particular the meaning of the word 'musyrikūn' in the surah Al-Taubah.

Kajian ini menumpukan kepada kesan makna artikel definitif (al) dalam tatabahasa Arab terhadap tafsiran teks. Artikel ini boleh memberi makna sesuatu yang telah timbul dan diketahui dalam tempoh masa tertentu (lām al- ʿahd), atau kepada sesuatu makna mutlak dan umum (lām al-jins). Penentuan makna artikel ini akan mempengaruhi makna dan tafsiran sesuatu ayat. Kajian ini akan memberi penerangan tentang perkembangan teori-teori tentang maksud artikel definitif ini dalam sejarah linguistik Arab, tatabahasa dan sumber-sumber yang berkaitan dengan ʿaqidah Islam. Ia turut menyorot makna-makna mungkin bagi artikel definitif ini seperti yang dilihat oleh penterjemah al-Quran khususnya makna perkataan 'musyrikūn' dalam surah Al-Taubah.
