كان لاستخدام العلوم في المجال الرياضي الأثر البالغ في تقارب مستويات الفرق من حيث المهارات والخطط الموضوعة، مما أدى إلى أن يكون هناك تطور ودراسة واسعة للنواحي النفسية والاجتماعية لما لها من أهمية كبيرة في فوز الفريق أو اللاعب أو خسارتهما، والسلوك التنافسي نشاط يحاول فيه الرياضي إحراز الفوز من خلال تعبئة أقصى القدرات البدنية والنفسية لتسجيل أفضل مستوى ممكن، ولعبة كرة السلة من الألعاب الجماعية التي يحاول فيها اللاعب إدراك قدراته وتحقيق الإبداع في الأداء المهاري الهجومي والدفاعي للسيطرة على متطلبات التدريب والمنافسة وهذا يتطلب منه أن يصل إلى مستوى عال من الأداء المهاري الهجومي والدفاعي الذي يؤدي إلى تحقيق الفوز. وكان هدف البحث التعرف على العلاقة بين السلوك التنافسي وأداء بعض المهارات الهجومية والدفاعية لدى لاعبي منتخبات تربيات بغداد بكرة السلة بأعمار 15 -16 سنة. واستخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفي بالأسلوب المسحي والعلاقة الارتباطية، وكانت عينة البحث متمثلة بلاعبي منتخبات تربيات بغداد بكرة السلة وبواقع (٧٢) لاعبا، وتم عرض النتائج وتحليلها ومناقشتها لمتغيرات الدراسة والتي من خلالها تم التوصل إلى تحقيق هدف البحث، ومن أهم استنتاجات البحث، أن مستوى السلوك التنافسي كان أعلى من الوسط، وأن ارتفاع مستوى السلوك التنافسي انعكس إيجابيا على أداء بعض المهارات الهجومية والدفاعية لدى اللاعبين.

The aim of the research was to identify the relationship between the competitive behavior and the skilful performance of some offensive and defensive skills to the players of the Baghdad basketball teams at the age of (15-16) years. The researcher used the descriptive method in the of survey and the relationship of correlation, and he was the research represented by the players of Baghdad's basketball teams and the reality (72) players, and the results were presented and analyzed discussed the variables of the study through which the achievement aim of the research, and one of the main findings of the research was that the level of competitive behavior was higher than the average, and the high level of competitive behavior reflected positively on the skilful performance of the players.
