مر الخطاب الشعري للشاعر بلند الحيدري بمرحلتين مهمتين أولهما: استلهام الرافد الأدبي العربي وذلك في بداية رحلته الشعرية إيمانا منه بضرورة وعي الشاعر لتراث ماضيه واستيعابه لتغذية تجربة الشعرية وتطورها. فقد كان لهذا الرافد الثقافي حضور واسع في أشعار الحيدري إذ سعى إلى استثمارها في نصوصه الشعرية أما عن طريق الاقتباس أو التضمين أو الإشارة بشكل ينسجم وتجربته الشعورية. فجاءت نصوص الشاعر متعالقة مع نصوص امرئ القيس وطرفة بن عبد، وأبو العلاء المعري، وإيليا أبو الماضي وجبران خليل جبران وغيرهم ممن سبق ذكرهم. لتشكل هذه الشخصيات الأدبية الشعرية ونجاحها الشعري مرجعا مهما من مراجع الشاعر الأدبية التي أستقى منها مادة رؤياه ومعانيها وصورها. أما في المرحلة الثانية فتتمثل بمطالعة الأدب الأوربي والإفادة من قضاياه الفنية في تنمية قدراته الشعرية، إذ نجد في هيكلية أشعار الحيدري أثر المذاهب الأوربية من رومانسية وسريالية وجودية وواقعية ورمزية، بالإضافة إلى تمثل الأساطير الغربية ولغة الكلام المحكي واليومي، كما تمثلت نصوصه الشعرية نظرية المعادل الموضوعي، والوحدة العضوية، وبذلك يكون الشاعر قد اقترب من دلالات النص الغربي ومحاكاته في بناه التركيبية والدلالية.
