Effect of Time of Pollination on Fruit Quality and Yield in some Indigenous Date Palm (Phoenix Dactylifera) in Northern Sudan

Two indigenous date cultivars, Barakawi and Mishrig Wad Khateeb, were used. Pollination experiments were conducted in the Horticulture nursery and a farmer’s orchard at Elgureir on seasons 2003 - 2005 on Barakawi date cultivar and seasons 2004 - 2005 on Mishrig Wad Khateeb. The objective of these trials was to determine the optimum time for pollination of the two cultivars to obtain highest yield and best fruit quality. The results showed that the best time for pollination of Barakawi is to pollinate 3 - 4 days after spathe opening and 4 - 5 days after spathe opening in Mishrig Wad Khateeb. |
