المستخلص: George Sand is one of those author who participated in the revival of the novel. Whereas in the past, only the upper classes had the right to appear on the romanesque scene, we find ourselves with George Sand facing a completely different concept. The author’s progressive thinking broke the rules and began to flatter the popular caste. Her writings, especially her country novels, celebrate the popular culture drawn from the heritage of the French people. It forms the spatial framework of many of his Romanesque texts. Focusing on the Berry culture in many of Sand’s texts, especially in his country novels, is an opportunity to inscribe the Berrichon heritage codes in her writings, in order to make others discover them, but it is also a way to save them from oblivion. In addition, integrating the popular heritage into the romanesque text is a real richness for the novel that becomes a kind of crossroads where other genres from oral culture; dance, myth, tale..., merge.

D’origine parisienne, George Sand va passer toute son enfance au Berry. Ses contacts avec les enfants berrichons de son âge vont influencer son existence. Une influence qui va perdurer amplement dans le temps. En fait, une fois devenue écrivaine, Sand transmettra cet amour pour le Berry et pour toute la culture berrichonne dans ses écrits. En lisant George Sand, on s’aperçoit que son pays d’enfance est quasiment toujours présent dans ses romans. Il forme le cadre spatial de beaucoup de ses textes romanesques. S’arrêter sur la culture du Berry dans beaucoup des textes de Sand, et spécialement dans les romans champêtres, est une occasion pour inscrire les codes du patrimoine berrichon dans ses écrits, en vue de les faire découvrir aux autres, mais c’est aussi une manière de les sauver des oubliettes. De plus, intégrer le patrimoine populaire dans le texte romanesque est une vraie richesse pour le roman qui devient une sorte de carrefour où les autres genres provenant de la culture orale ; danse, mythe, conte, etc. viennent se fondre.
