المستخلص: This paper comes within the framework of ethnosociological studies and more specifically the field of communication ethnography. By drawing on research works of Gumperz and Hymes, we devote this research to investigate the different morphological processes used by first-year French language students at the University of May 8, 1945 Guelma during their SMS exchanges. Based on the participant observation of the studied phenomenon, we analyse the samples selected from a corpus composed of f 500 Short Message Service (SMS), and we demonstrate that the young Algerian speaker is not only endowed with linguistic competences (ability to speak and write in several languages) but also with morphological competences, which allow him to create a set of SMS that correspond to the different morphological processes identified by professionals such as: diagram simplification/ consonants doubling (simplified), contraction/ agglutination and truncation.

Ce travail s’inscrit dans le champ des études ethnosociologiques et plus précisément dans celui de l’ethnographie de la communication. En faisant appel aux travaux de Gumperz et Hymes, nous consacrons cette recherche à l’étude des différents procédés morphologiques utilisés par les étudiants de 1ère année langue française à l’Université 8 mai 1945 Guelma lors de leurs échanges SMS. En nous basant sur l’observation participante du phénomène étudié, nous analysons les échantillons sélectionnés dans un corpus composé de 500 SMS et démontrons que le jeune locuteur algérien n’est pas seulement doté de compétences linguistiques plurilingues (capacité de parler et d’écrire en plusieurs langues), mais également de compétences morphologiques, qui lui permettent la création d’un ensemble d’SMS singuliers et individuels ne correspondant pas nécessairement aux différents procédés morphologiques identifiés par les spécialistes, tels que: la simplification de diagramme, la simplification de trigramme, la simplification de consonnes doubles, l’écrasement/ l’agglutination et la réduction graphique.
