|a إن الإبـدال في اللغة هو التبـديل والتغـيير، وفي الاصطلاح: هو أن يقام حرف مقام حرف، وهدفه التجانس الصوتي بين حروف الكلمة. والإبدال ظاهرة سامية، وكثيرا ما تشترك اللغات السامية في الاتفـاق على أصلين من أصول الكلمة الصوتية وتبدل الأصل الثالث نتيجة القـوانين الصوتية التي سارت عليها كل لغة من هذه الأسرة اللغوية، وفي هذه الظاهرة انقسم العلماء إلى قسمين منهم من يرى أنها لا تحدث إلا إذا وجـدت علاقـة مقاربة بـين المبدل والمبدل منه، ومنهم من لم يشترط ذلك في قرب المخرج.
|b Phonological Substitution is the replacement of one letter instead of another in a word based on the phonetic homogeneity of sounds found that word. Phonological substitution is a phenomenon shared by Semitic languages. In the Semitic languages, two phonemes of a word are produced with no change; the third one is substituted according to the phonological rules that govern all each language of the same origin. Phonological substitution occurs only if the phonemes have the same place of articulation. There is another view according to which the shared place of articulation of the substituted phonemes is not necessary for phonological substitution to occur.
