المستخلص: Improving maternal health is one of the major objectives of the national health prevention and action policy. The female population of reproductive age (15-49 years) is growing steadily, it has quadrupled between 1966 and 2019; the female population of reproductive age is 9.70 million at the 2008 census. Maternal mortality has experienced a remarkable drop in the space of 57 years (1962-2019), from around 500 deaths per 100,000 live births in 1962 to 48.50 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2019. Our main concern in this research is to identify the reasons which have favored the decline in maternal mortality in Algeria from independence to the present day?

L’amélioration de la santé maternelle figure parmi les objectifs majeurs de la politique nationale de prévention et d’action sanitaire. La population féminine en âge de procréation (15-49 ans) est en croissance continue, elle a été multipliée par près de quatre entre 1966 et 2019 ; la population féminine en âge de procréation est de 9.70 millions au recensement de 2008. La mortalité maternelle a connu une chute remarquable en l’espace de 57 ans (1962-2019), passant d’environ 500 décès pour 100 000 naissances vivantes en 1962 à 48.50 décès maternels pour 100 000 naissances vivantes en 2019. Notre préoccupation essentielle dans cette recherche est d’identifier les raisons qui ont favorisé la baisse de la mortalité maternelle en Algérie depuis l’indépendance à nos jours ?
