|a تناول هذا البحث دراسة ثيمة الوطن والغربة في ثنائية أثير عبد الله النشمي ودراسة هذه الثيمة سيميائيا عبر المربع السيميائي وما ينتجه من بنية عميقة تتمثل في علاقات التناقض والتضاد وعبر الأنموذج العاملي وما يتناوله من محور الرغبة ومحور الصراع ومحور التواصل، فالمكان هو واحد لدى الجميع بما فيه من الماديات أما الأمور المعنوية والعاطفية فتختلف باختلاف الشخصية لذلك ترى أن المكان ذاته يكون مألوفا ومحببا لدى شخصية ومعاديا عند شخصية أخرى وذلك بحسب الظروف وما للمكان من دلالات سلبية أو إيجابية في نفس الشخصية وبطبيعة الحال فإن للمكان سلطة لا تضاهيها سلطة أخرى فهو يفرض حضوره ومعاييره على كل من ينتسب إليه. وقد انمازت هذه الثنائية بسطوة المكان فنلحظ أن للمكان أثرا بارزا في تغيير مجرى الأحداث في الرواية وذلك عبر المعايير والقيم التي يفرضها المكان على الأشخاص فالمكان المحافظ على سبيل المثال لديه من القيم والعادات والتقاليد التي يفرضها على ساكنيه وتتوارث من الآباء إلى الأبناء ولها قدسية اجتماعية يصعب تجاوزها.
