المستخلص: Through most of the criticism of John Bunyan the commentators have concerned themselves with Bunyan's affinity with biblical figures. Insofar as they have dealt with Bunyan's relationship with the Scriptures, their interest has centred much more in characters with whom he often identified himself. However, the prophet Amos that they have virtually never cited would be the one to whom Bunyan could be easily assimilated. The object of this essay is to examine the similitude (both explicit and implicit) between the shepherd of Tekoa and the tinker of Bedford; particularly their prophetic visions of God's wrath for their respective societies, and their atypical behaviour resulting from them, as it appears in their writings.

Face aux textes de John Bunyan, la plupart des commentateurs se sont mis d’accord sur ses références aux figures bibliques. Lorsqu'ils ont abordé la relation de Bunyan avec les Écritures, ils se sont surtout intéressés aux personnages auxquels il avait l'habitude de s'identifier. En revanche, les critiques ne s’attardent jamais sur celui auquel on pourrait le plus facilement le comparer: le prophète Amos. L'objectif de cet article est d'étudier cette similitude (explicite et implicite) qui existe entre le berger de Tekoa et le chaudronnier de Bedford, particulièrement leurs visions prophétiques du courroux de Dieu à l'égard de leurs sociétés respectives et leur prise de position atypique en résultant, telle qu'elle apparaît dans leurs écrits.
