المستخلص: Peacekeeping operations, a veritable UN invention are a response adopted by the two main organs, the Security Council and the General Assembly as a substitute for the collective security system established by the Charter of the United Nations. If the logic of these operations led to their temporary and short-term nature, they have been the tool most used by the world organization even after the end of the Cold War, which tends to institutionalize them, and make them more effective at least at the time of their creation. This article aims to define the contours of this practice by looking at its origin, its effects and usefulness in relation to the question of international peace faced with the new challenges of adaptation and management of increasingly delicate crisis situations.

Les opérations de maintien de la paix, véritable invention onusienne sont une réponse adoptée par les deux organes principaux que sont le Conseil de Sécurité et l’Assemblée Générale comme succédané du système de sécurité collective établi par la charte des Nations Unies. Si la logique des ces opérations conduisait à leur caractère temporaire et de courte durée, elles ont été l’outil le plus utilisé par l’organisation mondiale même après la fin de la guerre froide ce qui tend à les institutionnaliser et les rendre plus efficaces du moins au moment de leur création. Cet article vise à cerner les contours de cette pratique en se penchant sur son origine, ses effets et son utilité au regard de la question de la paix internationale face aux nouveaux défis d’adaptation et de gestion de situations de crises de plus en plus délicates.
