المستخلص: The objective of the article is to highlight the evolution of the insurance sector in Algeria in recent years. The insurance business was introduced in Algeria by the colonial administration. Before 1830 the Algerians lived in community and it was the principle of solidarity and mutual aid that predominated. Since 1962 many reforms have concerned the insurance sector in Algeria. Despite this, this sector, which can contribute to financing development, lags considerably behind the rest of the world. We are therefore led to ask the following question: What is the current situation of the insurance market in Algeria? In order to answer this problem, we have found it useful to divide this article into three main parts. Thus, the first part highlights the foundations of insurance in order to know the jargon mobilized in this sector. As for the second part, it is devoted to the insurance market at the global level. The last part aims to present the structure and evolution of the Algerian insurance sector in order to understand the mechanisms of operation of this sector and its actors and its development in figures

L’objectif de l’article est de mettre en exergue l’évolution du secteur des assurances en Algérie ces dernières années. L’activité des assurances fut introduite en Algérie par l’administration coloniale. Avant 1830 les Algériens vivaient en communauté et c’était le principe de solidarité et d’entraide qui prédominait. Depuis 1962 de nombreuses réformes ont concerné, le secteur des assurances en Algérie. Malgré cela, ce secteur qui peut contribuer au financement du développement accuse un retard considérable par rapport au reste du monde. Nous sommes donc amenés à poser la question suivante: Quelle est la situation actuelle du marché des assurances en Algérie ? Afin de répondre a cette problématique, nous avons jugé utile de répartir cet article en trois grandes parties. Ainsi, la première partie met en exergue les fondements de l’assurance afin de connaitre le jargon mobilisé dans ce secteur. Quant à la deuxième partie, elle est consacrée au marché des assurances au niveau mondial. La dernière partie a pour but de présenter la structure et l’évolution du secteur algérien des assurances afin de comprendre les mécanismes de fonctionnement de ce secteur et ses acteurs et son développement en chiffre.
