The aim of the present study is to investigate the effectiveness of distance learning on the mechanical engineering students’ academic achievement as well as to examine students’ attitudes towards the method. To this end, thirty volunteering students were assigned into three groups. The groups received the same intensive ESP course presented through three different methods: the Traditional method, the Distance learning method, and the Language lab method. The results of One-way ANOVA and Scheffé post-hoc post-test showed statistical significant differences in favour of the distance learning group. Moreover, the analysis of the questionnaire responses demonstrated that the participants had developed negative attitudes towards their prior distance learning experience, however, their attitudes towards the distance learning ESP course implemented were positive. |
