In Algeria, cultural variations are mainly reflected in regional diversities. Under intercultural contact in a metropolitan city like Oran, this sociocultural/sociolinguistic situation accumulates a number of social and individual constructs and changes that differently participate in either the promotion or the regress of the Algerian society. In this work, the concept of interculturality is hypothesized to be a mainstream criterion for the profession of teaching as part of a social enterprise, education. It mainly borrows its underpinnings from the concept of the ‘savoir- vivre’ under globalization and urbanization processes. The work is based on data obtained from a questionnaire addressed to EFL fourth and fifth years Oran ENS students to investigate intercultuarlity in the city of Oran and the way it interacts with the teaching profession. The results of the study confirm the formerly raised hypothesis, and show that the nature of teachers‘ sociocultural environments impact the teaching profession.
