La temática de las minas en Chile no solo forma parte de su literatura, sino de su cultura en general. La mina fue el espacio protagonista de una lista interminable de obras literarias de escritores chilenos. Sin embargo, el nombre de Baldomero Lillo queda el más relativo con este tipo de literatura. Once cuentos eran suficientes para poner su nombre a la cumbre de una literatura que surge de las entrañas de la realidad de su sociedad. De su experiencia auténtica como empleado en el sector de la minería, surge su colección más destacada de su carrera literaria, Sub terra (1904). El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo echar luz sobre los elementos grotescos existentes en los relatos de dicha colección y algunos pertenecientes a otras colecciones. La mina, el espacio protagonista en estos cuentos, deja sus sombras a los personajes, al tono y a los elementos sonoros. El ámbito degradado provocó deformaciones en el carácter de los personajes, colocándoles en unas escenas grotescas, absurdas con elementos ambientales exagerados.
The theme of mines in Chile is not only part of its literature, but also of its culture in general. The mine was the protagonist space of an endless list of literary works by Chilean writers. However, the name of Baldomero Lillo remains the most related to this type of literature. Eleven stories were enough to put his name at the summit of a literature that emerges from the depths of the reality of his society. From his authentic experience as an employee in the mining sector arises his most outstanding collection of his literary career, Sub terra (1904). The objective of this work is to shed light on the grotesque elements existing in the stories of this collection and some belonging to other collections. The mine, the protagonist space in these stories, leaves its shadows to the characters, the tone and the sound elements. The degraded environment caused deformations in the personality of the characters, placing them in grotesque, absurd scenes with exaggerated environmental elements.
