يؤدي خط سكة حديد القاهرة - بورسعيد دوراً مهما في نقل الركاب، ويهدف البحث إلى دراسة خصائص خط السكة الحديد وحركة قطارات الركاب وحركة نقل الركاب، وكفاءة نقل الركاب على خط السكة الحديد وأهم مشكلاتها، ولتحقيق أهداف البحث اتبع المنهج الموضوعي الإقليمي والمنهج الأصولي، كما اعتمد البحث على الأسلوب الكارتوجرفي والأسلوب الميداني والأسلوب الإحصائي في جمع البيانات وتحليلها ، وخلص البحث إلى عدة نتائج أهمها: تعتبر محطة القاهرة أكبر محطات الخط في أعداد الرحلات اليومية المتاحة للركاب ، والبالغة أعدادها ٢٦١ رحلة يومياً بنسبة ۱۲.۷% من جملة الرحلات على محطات الخط ، ويبلغ متوسط زمن رحلة القطار بين محطتي القاهرة وبورسعيد ۱۷۷ دقيقة، وذلك بمتوسط سرعة ٦٧ كم / ساعة ويبلغ متوسط زمن التقاطر ٢٥ دقيقة بين كل قطارين، وتنقل القطارات متوسط 503988 راكباً يومياً على خط الدراسة بين محطتي القاهرة وبورسعيد، منهم 85135 راكباً ينقلون بالقطارات العاملة على خط الدراسة يمثلون ١٦.٧% من جملة ركاب القطارات بالخطوط المختلفة بالمارة بمحطات الخط، ونسبة عدم الرضاء عن خدمات النقل تزيد على نسبة الرضاء عن الخدمات المقدمة من قبل العينة على خط الدراسة، ومثلت مشكلة تعديات الباعة الجائلين على مسارات حركة القطارات خاصة في مناطق التقاطعات والمزلقانات أهم مشكلات المسارات والخطوط، وتعد مشكلة نقص الخدمات اللازمة للركاب مثل الاستراحات ودورات المياه وغيرها في مقدمة مشكلات محطات الخط.
