المستخلص: يسعى البحث إلى هدف يكمن في أن سيبويه كأنت لديه التفاتات عديدة للتعليل للقضايا اللغوية وكان من بين تلك الالتفاتات التعليل النابع من فكرة مراعاة الأصل والتشابه. وقد أوردنا العلل على قسمين هما: العلل الأصولية وهي: علة الأصل وعلة الرد إلى الأصل وعلة الوضع وعلة اختلاف الوجه وعلة حد الكلام، وعلة الرتبة وعلة التعويض وعلة الحذف من دون تعويض وعلة البدل وعلة الحاجز وعلة الفصل وعلة الاجتماع، وعلة التحديد وعلة الإتباع لاستعمال العرب وعلة التحويل من بناء إلى آخر. أما العلل التي وردت تحت القسم التشابهي فهي: علة الشبه، وعلة عدم الشبه، وعلة النظير، وعلة الإشراك، وعلة التوهم وعلة التعاقب وعلة المضارعة. وقد ختم البحث بمجموعة من أهم النتائج التي توصل إليها.
