المستخلص: رواية "طوق الحمام" تدور حول عالم مدينة "مكة"، إذ تعبر خلالها الروائية "رجاء عالم" عن حبها وشغفها بكل ما يحيط بتلك المدينة العظيمة. واستطاعت الروائية أن تطرح قضايا التراث والمعاصرة، فعرضت قضية اختفاء الكثير من المباني القديمة في مكة، كما رسمت صورة للمظاهر العمرانية الحديثة، الأبراج والمجمعات التجارية الضخمة، والتصميمات المعمارية الوافدة. وتتميز الرواية بعنوانها الذي يحمل دلالات عديدة، كما يتناص مع التراث. وكذلك كثرة أسماء الحارات والأزقة، مما يعد تخليدا لمكة القديمة، وتوثيقا لأحيائها العريقة. كما يحمل شارع (أبو الرؤوس) دورا مهما في حركة السرد. والكثير من السرد في الرواية على لسان أبو الرؤوس"، ولا يكتفي، بل يشارك بقوة الراوي العليم في تأليف الرسائل الخاصة المتبادلة بين ساكنيه. "أبو الرؤوس"، شاهد وراو، ليس فقط للسكان لتسجيل انطباعاتهم، وهو ينهل من الماضي ليسقي عطش الحاضر توقا لمستقبل يليق بالمدينة العريقة. وينظر الراوي بعين حزينة تئن وجعا على ما يصيب مدينته. وقد لجأت "رجاء عالم" إلى تقنية الرسائل العادية والإلكترونية" لتطوير أحداث الرواية، والوقوف على آراء وطبائع شخصيتين من شخصيات الرواية، واحتلت تلك الرسائل جزءا كبيرا جدا من الرواية، ويمكن اعتبارها أكثر الخطابات السردية حضورا حتى إنها تضاهي حضور الراوي. لقد حاولت الروائية استخدام العجائبي، وأسلوب المذكرات، واللغة الرمزية والمشهدية والحبكة البوليسية. كما تلجأ الكاتبة إلى استخدام لغة اليوميات والرسائل، أو الوثيقة التاريخية التي تتحدث عن تاريخ مكة القديم. أو استخدام التصوير المشهدي، الذي يحمل في كل مقطع من الرواية عنوانا محوريا خاصا به. وكذلك الانتقال بين أمكنة وأزمنة مختلفة تحاول الروائية أن تجعل القارئ ينتقل خلالها بين مستويات السرد وعوالمه المختلفة.

The novel "Tawq al-Hamam" revolves around the world of the city of "Mecca", during which the novelist "Rajaa Alem" expresses her love and passion for everything that surrounds that great city. The novelist was able to raise issues of heritage and contemporary, so she presented the issue of the disappearance of many ancient buildings in Makkah, and also painted a picture of modern urban manifestations, towers, huge commercial complexes, and incoming architectural designs. The novel is distinguished by its title, which carries many connotations, as well as the heritage. As well as the many names of lanes and alleys, which is a perpetuation of the old Mecca, and documentation of its ancient neighborhoods. Abu Al-Raus Street also plays an important role in the narrative movement. And much of the narration in the novel is on the tongue of "Abu Al-Ras", and he is not content with it, but rather participates with the strength of the knowledgeable narrator in composing the private messages exchanged between his residents. "Abu Al-Raus" is a witness and narrator, not only for the residents to record their impressions, but he draws from the past to quench the thirst of the present, yearning for a future worthy of the ancient city. The narrator looks with a sad eye, groaning in pain, at what befalls his city. Raja Alem has resorted to the technique of "regular and electronic" messages to develop the events of the novel, and to find out the opinions and natures of two of the characters in the novel. The novelist tried to use the miraculous, the diary style, the symbolic language, the scene, and the detective plot. The writer also resorts to using the language of diaries and letters, or the historical document that talks about the ancient history of Mecca. Or the use of landscape photography, which in each section of the novel carries its own pivotal title. As well as the transition between different places and times, the novelist tries to make the reader move between the different levels and worlds of the narration.
