فأي فضاء هذا واي أرقام تلك التي تغير واقع ونظام حياة متكامل، أفكار نسجها خيال روائي أمريكي قبل ما يزيد عن ثلاثين عاما (١٩٨٤) وهو كاتب الخيال العلمي الأمريكي (وليام جيبسون) في روايته الأولى نيورومانسر، قام بأول وصف لعصر المعلومات وذلك قبل ظهور الإنترنت في تسعينيات القرن العشرين حيث طرح فكرة (الفضاء الرقمي)، وقد وصفه بانه مكان لا مادي، حيث لا وجود للجسم الذي انتهى حيزه ولم يعد له مكان، ولكي نكون جزء من هذا الفضاء الرقمي لابد من أن نحمل أذهاننا وأرواحنا اليه، وهنا لابد أن نكون رقما في هذا الفضاء اللامتناهي. في خضم هذا الخيال العلمي الواسع نبقى رقما هشا بسيطا لا يؤثر بفاعلية في تغيير الأرقام المحيطة به بل يكون عرضة دائمة سهلة للتأثر، إلى متى سنكون الرقم الأضعف ضمن هذه الأرقام الصعبة؟ ومتى يتوقف أثرها في واقعنا السياسي والاقتصادي والاجتماعي؟ وهل يمكن أن نجد قوانين رقمية تتحكم بهذا الواقع الفضائي الذي يقوم على ثلاثة أبعاد (الطول، العرض، العمق؟) وهل ستكون هناك نتائج مهمة تنعكس على واقع المجتمع الرقمي الذي نحن جزء منه وان كنا خارجه؟. عالم افتراضي فضاء إلكتروني مجتمعات رقمية إذا لابد وان هناك أقاليم افتراضية رقمية، ولابد وان لكل إقليم صفاته ومجاله مناخه وتضاريسه، وأشهر الأقاليم الافتراضية في هذا الفضاء الواسع الرحب، إقليم الفيس بوك، وإقليم تويتر، وإقليم الواتس اب، وإقليم التانغو، وإقليم اليوتيوب، والكثير من الأقاليم الافتراضية التي تتكاثر وتنمو وتتوسع مواكبة للثورة الرقمية التي حولت المكان إلى طيف فضائي واسع، من هنا تبنى الباحث دراسة أثر الثورة التقنية الرقمية على واقع المجتمعات العربية.
