The geographical location of the Western Rif Mountains, between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean has allowed the existence of a wealth of flora and fauna. In the western part of this territory extend the forests of Bni Ider and Jbel Habib, which spread over a large and varied geographical area. They constitute an important part of the ecological diversity characterizing the mountains of the western Rif. This natural heritage has always played an important socio-economic and environmental role locally. However, increasing human pressure on these forest resources, in addition to several unfavorable natural factors, have led to the deterioration and decline of the forest fabric in this fragile mountain region.
