In the middle of the sixth century AH, the country of Andalusia witnessed a major transformation and transition, as the star of the Almoravid state declined and the sun of the Almohadin state rose. Although the two states were established on a religious principle, which is enjoining good and forbidding evil,- nevertheless- the Almohadin state was more established and longer lasting with the strongest influence in Andalusia. There is no doubt that there were poets who were eyewitnesses to the Almoravid and Almohadin eras in Andalusia, and perhaps they wrote poetry about them, including our poet Ibn al-Minkhal al-Shalabi. Indeed, nothing has reached us in his praise of the Almoravids, except that- without a doubt- he was a participant in cultural life, as well as political life. He was- like other Shalabis - a hater of the Almoravid state, dissatisfied with it, and participated in the revolution against it, whether in word or deed. He was a minister in the government of Ibn al-Mundhir, a supporter of the revolution of Ibn Qasi, rebelling against the authority of the Almoravid. |
