جاءت الدراسة بعنوان أثر بيئة شرق السودان في شخصية وانتصارات الأمير عثمان دقنه. وهدفت إلى معرفة أثر ذلك، وتحليل العوامل الجغرافية التي أثرت في شخصته وانتصاراته، ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة استخدمت الباحثين المنهجين التاريخي والتحليلي بغرض تحليل العوامل الطبيعية التي أثرت على شخصيته ونتائج معاركه. توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج أهمها: ارتبط نجاح الثورة المهدية في شرق السودان بشخصية الأمير عثمان دقنه الذي صقلته ظروف البيئة الطبيعية فجعلت منه قائداً فذا من قواد المهدية كما أسهمت مكونات البيئة الطبيعية في انتصارات الأمير عثمان دقنه. ولعبت الجبال دوراً باذراً في انتصارات عثمان حيث استخدمت كمخبئ له ولجنوده كما أن وعورة السطح أعاقة حركة الأليات للجنود المصريين والإنجليز. سيطرة عثمان دقنه على مصادر المياه خصوصاً الآبار. ووضح جليا في قيام معظم معاركه قرب الآبار كما أسهم المناخ في تبديد طاقة الجنود المصريين وإصابتهم بالإعياء والمرض نتيجة لارتفاع درجة الحرارة والرطوبة وكذلك رياح الهيباى في منطقة ساحل البحر الأحمر، أما الأمير عثمان دقنه وجنود هذه بيئتهم التي تأقلموا مع ظروفها. بناءً على تلك النتائج أوصت الدراسة بضرورة إدراج السجل الحافل من انتصارات الأمير عثمان دقنه في المناهج الدراسية، أيضا تدريس استراتيجياته الحربية والعسكرية ضمن مناهج الكليات العسكرية.

It aimed to know the effect of this, and to analyze the geographical factors that influenced his personality and victories, and to achieve the goals of the study, the researcher used the historical and analytical method in order to analyze the natural factors that influenced the results of his battles. The study reached the most important results: The success of the Mahdist revolution in eastern Sudan was associated with the personality of Prince Othman Digna, who was honed by the natural environment conditions, making him a unique leader of the leaders of the Mahdia. The components of the natural environment contributed to the victories of Prince Othman Digna. The mountains played a prominent role in Osman's victories, as they were used as a hideout for Prince Othman Digna and his soldiers, and the roughness of the surface hindered the movement of vehicles for the Egyptian and English soldiers. Osman Digna took control of water sources, especially the wells, and made it clear in most of his battles near the wells. The climate also contributed to wasting the energy of the Egyptian soldiers and causing them fatigue and disease as a result of the high temperature and humidity, as well as the winds of the Hebbai in the Red Sea Coast region. As for Prince Othman Digna and the soldiers, this is their environment that has adapted to its circumstances. Based on these results, the study recommended that the allied record of Prince Othman Daqnah's victories be included in the school curricula, as well as teaching his war and military strategies within the curricula of military colleges.
