الثورة المهدية هي واحدة من حركات البعث الإسلامي في القرن التاسع عشر، وتوفرت لها القيادة المحنكة المتمثلة في شخصية الإمام محمد أحمد المهدي، الذي وضع لها الخطط والتدابير الكفيلة بضمان النجاح من سرية شديدة في الدعوة، ولفترة طويلة لغرسها في نفوس القاعدة الشعبية بأسلوب حكيم، بالدعوة إلى الزهد في الدنيا والإقبال على ما عند الله، وإحياء الكتاب والسنة المقبورين حنى يستقيما. هذه الدعوة كسب بها رجال الدين في خلاويهم، وحرك بها رجال الطرق الصوفية في مساجدهم. ولفت نظر عامة الناس إلى الفساد الذي اعترى شعب الحياه، وإلى ضرورة الاهتمام بمحاربته، وأن الحكومة تأخذ المال من المواطنين بأساليب محرمة، وقد امتنع عن الأكل في خلاوي القرآن التي نجد دعماً من الحكومة. هذه الدعوات كان يبثها بحنكة وذكاء شديدين، وتمهل، وتفعل في نفوس الناس ما تفعله النار في الهشيم. عثر القائد على المكان الملائم لغرس بذرة الثورة المباركة في النيل الأبيض. وقد احتض إقليم النيل الأبيض الدعوة والداعية لما كان يذخر به من رجال الدين والطرق الصوفية، الذين استوعبهم القائد في دعوته بحكمة متناهية وكانت استجابتهم قوية ومحركة لكل قوى الشعب السوداني. وإضافة لكل ذلك وسطية المكان، إذ كان النيل الأبيض يحتل مكان القلب من السودان ومكن ذلك الموقع المهدي الإمام من توزيع دعوته مع المسافرين شرقاً وغرباً وشمالاً وجنوباً فتحاوزت دعوته حدود السودان وبدأت تأخذ الطابع العالمي وأصبحت أمل البؤساء المغلوبين بقوى الاستعمار. وصدق أنصار المهدي معه في داخل البلاد وقدموا الغالي والنفيس من نفس ومال وبنين حتى انتصرت الثورة، وما كان لها أن تنتصر لولا ما وحدته في النيل الأبيض من ميزات تفضيلية على غيره من الأقاليم. \
Mahdia Revolution is one of the Islamic revival movements in the nineteenth century. It has had the astute leadership in the personality of Imam Mohammed Ahmed El Mahdi, who put her plans and the suitable measures to ensure the success in secrecy call for a long time, to be planted in the hearts of grassroots in a wise manner through the call to asceticism in life and the turnout for God and the revival of the buried Quran and Sunnah till they straighten. This call earn clergy men in their Khalwas , and move the Sufi in their mosques, drew public attention to the corruption that behaved all the aspects of life, the need to fight that corruption, and that the government is taking money from citizens in a prohibited way. He refrained from eating in Koranic khalwas which find support from the government. He broadcasted These calls with great tact, intelligence and amble. The leader found the appropriate place to plant the blessed seed of revolution in the White Nile region .The White Nile embraced the call and the caller because it was abounded with clerics and sufi who were included by the leader in his call wisely. Their response was strong and gave a driving force to all Sudanese people. In addition to that, was the intermediate place of the White Nile which was the heart of Sudan and enabled the Imam to distribute his call through the traveler to all over the Sudan. So, his call exceeded the Sudan borders and began to take the global nature and became the hope of the wretched and the defeated by the forces of colonialism. Ansar El Mahdi proved sincerity with him inside the country and offered the pricey and precious of souls, money and sons until the victory of the Revolution. This revolution would not be able to win without the support of the White Nile region which has preferential advantages distinguished it from the other regions \
