Deep desulfurization of model sulfur compounds (di-n-butyl sulfide, dimethyl sulfoxide and dibenzothiophene) and light gas oil (LGO) derived from Libyan crude oil were conducted. A series of batch experiments were carried out using a small reactor operating at various temperatures (20 – 100˚C) with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as oxidant and formic acid (HCOOH) as homogenous catalyst. Kinetic models for the oxidation process are then developed based on ‘total sulfur approach’. The conversion of DBT and the sulfur content reached 99% and 3.52 ppm, respectively at the optimal catalytic conditions of 60°C, and reaction time of 10 min. The catalytic oxidation of DBT fitted the first-order kinetic model pretty well. |
