|a من خلال استقراء منهج أبي داود في كتابه السنن، ظهر للباحث ما يلي: الاستدلال هو المقصود الأصل عند أبي داود، فإذا قصد غير الاستدلال بين ذلك. الاستدلال عند أبي داود واسع، وله فيه مقاصد ثلاثة: المقصود الأول: ذكر الحديث بقصد الاستدلال على عنوان المسألة. والاستدلال في هذه الحال قد يكون واضحا وقد يكون خفيا دقيقا. المقصود الثاني: ذكر الحديث بقصد بيان وشرح الحديث الذي قبله. المقصد الثالث: ذكر الحديث بقصد الاستدلال على مسألة أخرى لم تذكر في العنوان، لكن لها ارتباط معها من جهة من الجهات، كأن يذكر حديثا يشترك مع الحديث الأصل في الباب في السبب، أو يذكر حديثا في مسألة مقاربة لمسألة الحديث؛ لئلا يختلط حكم هذه مع هذه على القارئ.

Authority citing by Abu Daud is broad, and it has three objectives: The first objective: Mentioning a hadith with the intention of authority citing for the topic of the issue. And authority citing in this case may be clear and it may be obscure and mystifying. The second objective: Mentioning a hadith with the intention of explaining and clarifying the hadith before it. The third objective: Mentioning a hadith with the intention of citing authority on another issue that was not mentioned in the topic, but which has correlation with it in one way or the other, like mentioning an hadith that shares the same reason with the major hadith on the topic, or by mentioning an hadith on an issue close to the issue of the hadith, in order that there would not be any mix-up between the ruling of each hadith.
