This research addresses and investigates the historical development of the concept of the crimes against humanity. It examines and analyzes their elements and characteristics, along with the international criminal liability for these crimes. The research has concluded that • the crimes against humanity are the ones committed against a civilian population as part of a deliberate and repeated attack that expresses a behavioral approach by a State, organization or persons to commit such an attack or reinforce this policy; • the crimes against humanity gain an international character and nature as they go beyond the borders of a single country to affect humanity as a whole. Therefore, the international community has called for the necessity of confronting them and deterring their perpetrators.
