The present study seeks to shed light on one of those challenges, which is the problem of 'Remainder Books' among publishers in Egypt, to find out the reasons behind the accumulation of books and the problems of marketing them, and the extent of their impact on the economy of this industry. The most important findings of the study were: The average percentage of remaining books in most Egyptian publishing houses. The study sample is large. Most publishing houses have 2,000-4,000 copies remaining, at a rate of 48.6%, while there are 30 publishing houses that have more than 4,000 copies remaining, at a rate of 27.5%. This is a large percentage that constitutes a burden on the publisher in bearing storage costs, and printing costs if not. Selling them, which negatively affects the publishing economy. Publishers in Egypt published a modest number of new titles issued annually during the period from 2015 to 2019. This is due to 15 reasons that led to the accumulation of copies of titles issued by Egyptian publishing houses, study sample. 27 Egyptian publishing houses, representing 25% of the total study sample, are familiar with and knowledgeable about residual marks and their role in distinguishing remaining copies of books from the titles they publish. It used 6 common signs to distinguish copies of remaining books, and that the most common sign used and followed to distinguish copies of remaining books is “the use of a specific symbol determined by the publisher,” at a rate of 16 publishing houses, representing 59.2% of the total Egyptian publishing houses. Egyptian publishing houses keep the remaining copies in their own warehouses with 74 publishing houses, representing 68% of the total publishing houses in the study sample, despite the increased burden on the publisher in terms of storage costs. |
