فرضت صلاة الجمعة والظهر في مكة قبل الهجرة. وأن الجمعة يوم اختص الله به المسلمين، والجمعة والظهر واجبة على الرجال الأحرار المقيمين الذين لا عذر لهم. والجمعة صلاة مستقلة عن الظهر. النية واجبة في صلاة الظهر وصلاة الجمعة لاستقلاليتها. لا تجب صلاة الجمعة على المرأة. لا بد من جماعة لإقامة صلاة الجمعة، بخلاف صلاة الظهر. لا يجوز تعدد الجمع في البلد الواحد من غير الحاجة، بخلاف الظهر. يشترط الاستيطان لصلاة الجمعة بخلاف صلاة الظهر، الخطبة شرط صحة للجمعة، بخلاف صلاة الظهر فلا يشرع فيها الخطبة. يستحب الجهر في صلاة الجمعة، بخلاف صلاة الظهر فلا يستحب فيها الجهر. وقت الجمعة من أول وقت صلاة العيد بخلاف الظهر فوقتها بزوال الشمس. يجوز التطوع قبل صلاة الجمعة بخلاف صلاة الظهر إذا كان بوقت النهي. الجمعة تجب على المملوك إذا لم يمنعه سيده بخلاف الظهر فتجب بكل حال. يستحب قراءة سورة مخصوصة في يوم الجمعة. يستحب الاغتسال يوم الجمعة. يستحب الطيب والسواك يوم الجمعة. يستحب التبكير يوم الجمعة. يحرم السفر بعد الزوال وقبل الصلاة يوم الجمعة لمن وجبت عليه، بخلاف صلاة الظهر. يحرم البيع بعد النداء الثاني. نهي عن صلاة الظهر قبل الجمعة لمن وجبت له. لا يجوز الجمع بين الجمعة والعصر بخلاف الظهر فيجوز فيه الجمعة. من أدرك ركعة من الجمعة فقد أدرك الجمعة.
