المستخلص: Religious discourse can be used to achieve various goals in societal, political, economic, and cultural fields. For that, preachers tend to switch between different languages or codes to deliver the information in a good way and be understood by the largest possible number of recipients, thus achieving those goals and purposes. So, to explore the phenomenon of code switching in the religious discourse a qualitative study was undertaken by means of recording different discourses delivered by Sheikh HAMRI, an Islamic preacher from Tlemcen; in addition to a structured interview with Sheikh. The study, thus, fits into the field of sociocultural linguistics, a newly developing aspect of linguistics that looks beyond formal interests to the social and cultural meanings and functions of language use; and it reveals that switching between different codes in the religious discourse has become more than necessary, especially in our current era of openness to other cultures.
