|b Trade unions were one facet of the struggle against French colonialism in North Africa, particularly prominent in Tunisia and Algeria. Led by the working class, they initially fought against racism and demanded equality. However, their struggle quickly transformed from purely labor-oriented to a quest for independence. They actively participated in the liberation trajectory of both countries, alongside political and military struggles. In this article, the comparison between the Algerian and Tunisian trade unions was addressed within the period from 1884 to 1956.
