|a يتناول البحث أحد الموضوعات التي تهدف إلى التعرف على عنصر من عناصر تكوين الأسرة لدى شعوب العراق القديم، ألا وهو الطفل، لقد أظهرت المجتمعات محبتها للأطفال والرغبة في إنجابهم ومدى السعادة بهم، وقدرت المرأة المنجبة تقديرا خاصا، ويمكن لمس ذلك التقدير في العديد من الأعمال الفنية، لقد شغف العراقي القديم بالأطفال وأوضح ذلك فيما تركه من أعمال فنية تصور كلا الجنسين في المراحل العمرية المختلفة. لم تتوقف فنون العراق على تصوير أطفال شعوبها فقط ولكن امتد الأمر ليشمل أطفال الأعراق الأجنبية المتواجدة بالعراق.
