المستخلص: Our study focuses on the problems and the challenges in the reception of Oriental images and the retransfer of the ''self'' in translation in relation to the lag between Voltaire's Orient and its Arabic perception. We begin by giving a brief overview of two literary fields, namely ''reception esthetics'' and ''imagology'', which provide an appropriate theoretical framework to deal with our problematic. We use Antoine Berman's critical approach to analyze the translational challenges through its different tendencies of distortion in relation with the esthetic components of the tale Zadig aiming to set up a critical analysis that identifies the domestication risks. In other words, we proceed to highlight the excessive treatment of Oriental images in the original text to suit target audience expectations.

Notre étude se focalisera principalement sur les défis et les problèmes de la réception des images orientales et le re-transfert du „soi‟ en traduction liés principalement au décalage entre l'Orient de Voltaire et sa perception arabe. Nous commencerons par donner un bref aperçu de deux domaines du champ littéraire, à savoir «l'esthétique de réception» et «l'imagologie» qui fournissent un cadre théorique approprié. Pour traiter notre problématique, nous aurons recours à l'approche critique d'Antoine Berman afin d'analyser la traduction à travers ses différentes tendances déformantes par rapport aux composantes esthétiques du conte Zadig en ayant pour but la mise en place d'une critique dont l'objectif est l'identification des risques de domestication, en d'autres termes, un traitement à outrance des images orientales du texte original pour convenir aux attentes du public cible.
