|a تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل بعض الخطابات المختارة لبعض قادة العالم لاستكشاف الأسلوبية المتبعة لمخاطبة الجمهور بالتدابير الاحترازية لمواجهة جائحة كوفيد 19. وقد اعتمدت هذه الدراسة على منهجية فاركلوف (1995) للتحليل النقدي للخطاب مستندا على المنهج اللغوي النظامي الوظيفي (هاليداي وماثييسن، 2004) كنموذج للتحليل اللغوي لوظائف تواصلية مختلفة تؤديها أنواع عدة من الأسلوبية وقيمها وتوجهاتها. كما قد تم تحديد نوع الأسلوبية السائدة التي تميز خطاب كوفيد 19 عن طريق تطبيق تحليل التردد. أظهرت نتائج هذه الدراسة أن جمل الأسلوبية الدالة على الضرورة والحتمية تفوق عددا الجمل الدالة على الاحتمالية والاعتيادية. عبر قادة العالم باستخدام كلا نوعي الأسلوبية: "الالتزام والاستعداد"؛ ومع ذلك، فإن جمل التي تدل على الاستعداد منتشرة في جميع الخطابات. كما خلصت الدراسة إلى ميل قادة العالم إلى استخدام الصيغ الذاتية للتعبير عن آرائهم وعرض هويتهم كصناع قرار.
|b The study investigates the use of modality in the speeches of selected world leaders during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis adopts Fairclough's (1995) critical discourse analysis approach, with Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) Systemic Functional Linguistics as an analytical tool to investigate the interpersonal meanings of modality types, their values, and orientations. Frequency analysis is applied to determine the dominant modality type that characterizes COVID-19 discourse. The result shows that modulation clauses outnumbered those of modalization. World leaders express both modulation sub-types,' obligation and inclination'; however, inclination is pervasive in all the speeches. They deploy the median modal 'will' to display their firm determination to overcome the virus and utilize 'must' and 'need to' to call on the citizens to take rapid action. As for modality orientation, world leaders are prone to utilizing subjective modality to convey their opinions and display their identity as decisionmakers.
