تتناول هذه الدراسة شخصية السلطان الصالح نجم الدين في الرواية العربية من خلال محورين رئيسين، أحمدهما تناول شخصيته الروائية في ضوء الأحداث الي عاصرها. وتبين من خلال هذا المحور أن شخصيته الروائية مختلفة عما استقرت عليه في أذهان المتلقين بحكم موقعها التاريخي، فقد بدت شخصيته ذات إرادة صلبة تنمو بنمو الأحداث، ونظرته تتجاوز الحاضر إلى المستقبل، وهو في صراع مستمر مع منافسيه حتى صار رمزا للتصدي لأطماع الأمراء الأيوبيين وظهر بمظهر المجاهد الذي يعرف واجبه تجاه أمته في صراعها هع الحملات الصليبية. وتناول المحور الثاني شخصيته الروائية في ضوء، اتجاهات العصر الحديث وذلك لأن الظروف المعاصرة كانت تقتضي أن يقدم الروائيون خطاباً يتناسب مع المرحلة الزمنية التي صدرت فيها رواياتهم، فأسقطوا على الأحداث اتني عالجوها بعض قضايا العصر الحديث، بحيث نجد السلطان الصالح تارة يحمل هم الوطنية، وتارة يحمل هم القومية العربية، وتارة يعيش في مجتمع يؤمن بمبادئ الواقعية الاشتراكية الماركسية، ولذا بدت شخصية السلطان غير متلائمة مع شخصيته الحقيقة.
This study is handling the personality of the Sultan , Al Saleh Najmul Deen within the Arabian novel , through two major axis , one of them the handling for his novel personality within the light of incidents those he had lived in , that for such incidents a major role in the frequent mentioning for his name among the historical eras , and through this axis it was indicated that his era personality is differ than what was constituted on the receivers minds , because of its historical position, so his personality started to e of high power and development with the incidents development , and his view is passing the present to future , as well as he is in a continued conflict with his competitors till he became a sample for resistance for the greed of Ayubian princes and he had appeared as diligent "Mujahid" who acknowledgement by his duties against his people in its struggle with the Christian campaigns . The second axis handled to his novel personality within the light of the modern era because the modern circumstances had been imposing that the novel writer must introduce expression that suiting the time stage that their novel issued in , as they determined within the events those they corrected , some of the modern era issues and they made of the real and artificial characters expressing their own views
