Amidst international argument of putting an end to global and regional conflicts, the new US policy has dealt with the Palestinian issue in two stages. The first is to call for indirect negotiations. In spite of the failure of this stage, the US started preparing for the second one of direct negotiations whose content does not differ from that of the previous two-decade negotiations. Nevertheless, what makes a difference at the moment is the US policy's attempt to influence and undermine the negotiations' reference by means of depending on the current political balances according to any Palestinian-Israeli agreement. This would impose new views for the political settlement. The US vision is to reduce the severity of the conflict of the Middle East in a bid to end that between the Israelis and the Palestinians which affects the other cases of conflict. Since the contexts for launching the direct negotiations are still immature, it can be seen that the content of the US contacts with the parties of the Middle East peace process is similar to that of the former administrations and the Quartet frameworks. No genuine restrictions have been imposed on the policies and projects of Israeli settlements whether in the West Bank or in Jerusalem. What is more important has to do with the set up of a new reference reflecting the imbalance between the negotiating parties. However, this is not the only difficulty encountering the direct negotiations, for the weakness of the US vision shall lead to its concentration on offering political and security guarantees and motives to Israel. What is also noteworthy is the clarity of the Israeli security demands in contrast with the uncertainty of the Palestinian agenda in addition to the lack of independence, stability and political representation of the Palestinian people. This may lead to the continuity of the negotiations but with limited results, except for the question of the Jewish national state vision. It is expected to become an acceptable option in the future despite the several regional objections and the numerous, great legal problems.
