المستخلص: The mosques in the West Bank have been recently subject to increasing aggressions by the Israeli forces and the Jewish settlers. In the meantime, the US administration is negotiating the Israeli government to cease the settlement activities so that the peace process could be resumed. The aggressions include the demolishing of some mosques and the burning of others, tearing of- and writing racist statements on- copies of the Noble Qur’an, and the prevention of worshippers from reaching the mosques for praying. Such Israeli behaviours against the Islamic holy symbols reveal the nature of the Israeli society which is overflowing with discrimination and religious hatred towards everything that is not Jewish. They also display the degree of negligence of freedoms and human rights endorsed by the international legitimacy. Upon reviewing the size and types of aggressions committed in the last few years, it is safe to say that the successive Israeli governments in addition to the hard-line Jewish groups will not hesitate to use all the possible tools against the Islamic symbols. They believe that such policies would support the Israeli position in controlling the occupied Arab territories and displacing the Arab population. This would lead to the success of the ongoing Israeli expansionist project and would grant validity to the status quo which the project imposes, irrespective of its flagrant violation to the International Law. Furthermore, these actions are seen, from an Israeli perspective, to have an impact on the results of the negotiations and the political settlement in the region.
