أصبحت التقنية والمعلوماتية قاسما مشتركا في ممارساتنا اليومية وأنشطتنا الحياتية، وأن التقنية الحديثة والتطور الكبير للحواسيب الإلكترونية صارت تتعامل مع مختلف مجالات الحياة بشكل يتيح لمستخدميها السرعة والدقة والمرونة. المهتمون بعلم العروض اتفقوا على أن هذا العلم قد يسبب إرباكاً في ذهن المتلقي بحيث صار من المهم البحث عن أساليب جديدة تحاكي الذهن البشري ليرتكز على مفاهيم هذا العلم بصورة أدق وأسهل واتجهت الفكرة إلى فتح أفق علمي حاسوبي جديد يسهل مهمة قراءة عوالم الإيقاع والنغم والموسيقى والصوت في إطار محاكاة الحاسوب وتطويعه لمحاكاة المنطق الأدبي. ركز هذا البحث على استخدام الحاسوب لتحديد وزن بيت أو قصيدة من الشعر العربي ومعرفة ما يعتريه من زحاف وعلل، كما أن البحث سعى لمعرفة أصل دوائر الشعر التي حددها الخليل بن أحمد الفراهيدي، وقد تم إيجاد العلاقات التي تحكم بحور الشعر في الدائرة الواحدة وإثبات صحة الدوائر الخمس التي حددت من الفراهيدي، كما تم في هذا البحث التوصل إلى تحديد النواة التي تستند إليها جميع بحور الشعر العربي الستة عشر وكذلك البحور المهملة.
