يعد التلوث من الظواهر البيئية التي أخذت جزا كبيرا من اهتمام الباحثين والمؤسسات الصحية وحكومات دول العالم منذ النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين على وجه الخصوص الدول المتقدمة وتعد مشكلة التلوث من أهم المشاكل البيئية الملحة التي بدأت تأخذ أبعادا بيئية واقتصادية واجتماعية خطيرة، خصوصا بعد الثورة الصناعية في أوروبا والتوسع الصناعي الهائل والمدعوم بالتكنولوجيا الحديثة. يعرف التلوث بشكل عام على أنه هو إحداث تغير في البيئة التي تحيط بالكائنات الحية بفعل الإنسان وأنشطته اليومية مما يؤدي إلى ظهور بعض المواد التي لا تتلاءم مع المكان الذي يعيش فيه الكائن الحي ويؤدي إلى اختلاله. فيما يعرف تلوث التربة على أنه أي تغيير فيزيائي أو كيميائي يسبب في تغير استغلالها وجعلها غير قادرة على الاستغلال المفيد دون المعالجة في حين يعرف تلوث المياه على أنه كل ما يدخل كتلة الماء من أثر يحدثه الإنسان فيؤدى إلى تغير الصفات الطبيعية والكيميائية واختلال التوازن الطبيعي في تلك الكتلة وبالتالي تضر بالإنسان والكائنات الحية. يتناول البحث دراسة وتحليل المخلفات المطروحة من معمل بيبسي الكوفة إلى البيئة وذلك بهدف معرفة العناصر المطروحة من المعمل والملوثة للتربة والمياه معا. يقع معمل بيبسي الكوفة في ناحية العباسية قضاء الكوفة ويحادد طريق نجف بابل ونهر الفرات (شط العباسية) ومبزل جوبان . اعتمدت الدراسة على جمع وتحليل (6) نماذج من المياه (3 ) منها خلال الموسم الصيفي و(3) منها خلال الموسم الشتوي وذلك من المخلفات السائلة المطروحة من المعمل ومن المبزل القريب من المعمل والذي تنصرف إليه ومن مياه شط العباسية القريب منه. كما اعتمدت الدراسة على جمع وتحليل (4) نماذج من التربة (2) منها خلال الموسم الصيفي و(2) منها خلال الموسم الشتوي وذلك من الجهات المتأثرة بالجهات المطروحة من المعمل والجهات الأخرى البعيدة عنها. توصلت هذه الدراسة على أن معمل بيبسي الكوفة يطرح مخلفات سائلة وأخرى صلبة تؤدي إلى تلوث التربة والمياه بعناصر ملوثة مختلفة. \
