المقنع الكندي أحد أعلام الشعر العربي في العصر الأموي، أصابه ما أصاب الكثير من الشعراء من إهمال لأخبارهم وأشعارهم، فتناثرت قصائده، وتوزعت أخباره، وشعره- يكاد يكون مفقوداً- فليس له- بين أيدينا- ديوان شعر، فلم نعثر على أي إشارة تفيد وجود ديوانه في فترة من فترات تاريخنا، ولم يصل إلينا من شعره إلا بما حفظته بعض المصادر الأدبية والتاريخية، ومن ثم عقدت العزم في جمع شعر المقنع الكندي، وتحقيقه، ودراسته إيماناً بقيمة التراث وإصراراً على بعثه ونشره، فكان مجموع ما جمعناه من شهره سبعة وسعين بيتاً. وهذا القدر جد قليل قياساً بشهرة المقنع الكندي ومنزلته بين شعراء عصره. ولكننا- بعون من الله- استطعنا على ضوء هذه المجموعة- مع قلتها- أن تستطلع أغراض هذا الشعر- ونقف على السمات الفنية لهذا الشاعر بعد أن أشرنا إلى مصادره، ومنهجنا في تحقيقه الذي انتهجنا فيه منهجاً علمياً دقيقاً موافقاً للأصول العلمية لمنهج التحقيق. ولاشك أن جمع شعر شاعر فقد ديوانه أو لم يكن له ديوان يعد إضافة جديدة لتراثنا الشعري، يضاف إلى ذلك أنه يلقي أضواء كاشفة على جانب مهم من تاريخنا، كما أنه يمتاز بقدرة فنية كبيرة، وثروة أدبية تضاف لذخيرتنا.
Al-Muqnna Al-Kendi was an Arabic poetry master during the Ommiad era . Likewise many poets’ poems and biographies , Al-Muqnna's poems dispersed and his biography was neglected . Nearly all of his poems is lost ; we have no even one collection of poems nor any indication that his collection of poems was in existence during any period of time . Nothing of his poems was transmitted to us save through some literary and historical sources . Hence,' I fully intended , believing in the value of heritage and persisting in resurrecting and publicizing it , to complie and to investigate Al-Muknna Al-Kendi's poems . As a result , seventy-seven total verses were compiled . Comparing with Al-Muqnna's fame and status among his contemporaries , this number of verses is very few . But, by God's Assisstance , we could , in the light of these few verses . explore the purposes of this poetry and stand on the art features pf Al- Kendi after refering to his sources . We adopted scientific , accurate approach in conformity with the scientific bases of investigation . No doubt that, to compile poems of poet, lost his collection of poems or in fact has no collection, is a new addition to our poetic heritage as well as cants light on an important part in our history specially since such poet is characterized by a great artistic talent and owens a wealth of literature should be added to our rich heritage .
