المقنع الكندي أحد أعلام الشعر العربي في العصر الأموي، أصابه ما أصاب الكثير من الشعراء من إهمال لأخبارهم وأشعارهم، فتناثرت قصائده، وتوزعت أخباره، وشعره - يكاد يكون مفقودا - فليس له - بين أيدينا - ديوان شعر، فلم نعثر على أي إشارة تفيد وجود ديوانه في فترة من فترات تاريخنا، ولم يصل إلينا من شعره إلا ما حفظته بعض المصادر الأدبية والتاريخية، ومن ثم عقدت العزم على جمع شعر المقنع الكندي وتحقيقه، ودراسته إيمانا بقيمة التراث واصرارا على بعثه ونشره، فكان مجموع ما جمعناه من شعره سبعة وسبعين بيتا. وهذا القدر جد قليل قياسا بشهرة المقنع الكندي ومنزلته بين شعراء عصره. ولكنننا - بعون من الله - استطعنا على ضوء هذه المجموعة - مع قلتها – أن نستطلع أغراض هذا الشعر، ونقف على السمات الفنية لهذا الشاعر بعد أن أشرنا إلى مصادره، ومنهجنا في تحقيقه الذي انتهجنا فيه منهجا علميا دقيقا موافقا للأصول العلمية لمنهج التحقيق. ولا شك أن جمع شعر شاعر فقد ديوانه أو لم يكن له ديوان - يعد إضافة جديدة لتراثنا الشعري، يضاف إلى ذلك أنه يلقي أضواع كاشفة على جانب مهم من تاريخنا، والمقنع الكندي يمتاز بقدرة فنية كبيرة، وشعره ثروة أدبية تضاف لذخيرتنا. \
Like many other poets, Al-Muqnna Al-Kendi, a prominent poet of the Ommaid era, has suffered from lack of attention. Al-Kendi’s poems and biography are almost lost. They are dispersed and neglected. We don’t have any indication that his collection of poetry was in existence during any period of time in our history. We are only letf with some glimpses of his poetry transmitted to us through some literary and historical sources. Being a believer in the value of heritage and the need to persist in resurrecting and publicizing it, I was fully determined to conpile, scrutinize, and investigate Al-Kendi’s poetry. Consequently, a total of seventy-six verses were traced and compiled. Compared to Al-Muqanna Al-Kendi’s fame and status among his contemporaries, the compiled corpus of his work is limited. However, we could, thanks to God, use these few verses sources. In doing this, I have adopted an accurate scientific approach that conforms to the basic principles of the scientific investigation. There is no doubt that compiling poems for a poet, who had lost his collection or had no collection, is a genuine addition to our poetic heritage. It also hepls illuminate an important part of our history. As a matter of fact, Al-Muqnna Al-Kendi is characterized by his remarkable artistic ability and his poetry is a literary fortune that enhances our heritage \
