إن دراسة أصناف المدعوين واجب الدعاة، وخاصة أصحاب التخصص الأكاديمي، ليُفيدوا في مناهج الدعوة إلى الله ووسائلها وأساليبها، ودوافع الإنكار والاستجابة، والمعوقات التي تقف في طريق دعوة كل صنف من أصناف المدعوين. فمن المؤكد أنه لا يمكن سبر غور كل مجتمع إلا من خلال دراسة أحواله. وإن توجه الباحثين والمتخصصين في علم الدعوة إلى الله إلى دراسة الديانات والفرق يُعتبر ظاهرة صحية تسهم في إفادة الدعاة إلى الله بين صفوف الديانات والفرق المختلفة بما تقدمه من دراسات لأحوال وظروف المنتسبين إلى هذه الفرق والديانات، ومن جانب آخر تُسهم هذه الدراسات في رد الشبهات التي تثار على الإسلام. وإن من هذه الديانات الفرقة القديمة التي أثبت تاريخ الأنبياء وقصصهم وجودهم منذ زمن إبراهيم الخليل- عليه السلام-، ولا زالت هذه الديانة باقية في موطنها الأصلي بلاد الرافدين، فرأيت أن أقدم دراسة بحثية تركز على الجانب التاريخي الدعوي لهذه الديانة، وتبرز تاريخ دعوة الصابئة إلى الإسلام قديماً وحديثاً ومعوقاتها والسبل المناسبة لدعوتهم في هذا العصر بعد أن بذلت جهداً في البحث هل سُبقت بدراسة مشابهة؟ فلم أجد. وما هذه الدراسة إلا إشارات أرجو أن تكون مرتكزاً لدراسة أشمل وأعم. وقد تضمن البحث إشارات فيها تعريف بالصابئة، وحجمها بين الديانات، ومواقع الانتشار مع إحصائيات أعدداهم، وتاريخ نشأتهم، وأبرز معتقداتهم وأفكارهم، وأبرز شخصياتهم قديماً وحديثاً، ومصادر الديانة الصابئة، والمؤلفات التي كُتبت فيها. وتاريخ دعوة الصابئة إلى الإسلام عبر العصور الإسلامية المتتابعة، ومظاهر التأثر والتأثير بين الديانة الصابئية والمسلمين. مع بيان أهم الوسائل والأساليب التي استخدمها المسلمون في دعوتهم للصابئة قديماً، وما يمكن استخدامه حديثاً، مع الإشارة إلى قضيتين هامتين في دعوتهم هي قضية التنجيم وإنكار النبوة. مع بيان أهم معوقات دعوة الصابئة إلى الإسلام في العصر الحاضر. ثم أشرت إلى أهم المقترحات حول مستقبل دعوتهم إلى الإسلام في العصر الحاضر منطلقاً من المنهج القرآني في دعوتهم كالمناظرة والحوار والانطلاق من القواسم المشتركة بين الإسلام والصابئة كنقطة من نقاط الالتقاء والتفاهم.
