تعد مواقع المكتبات الجامعية على شبكة الويب، بوابة أساسية للاتصال والتواصل، مع المستفيدين خارج مبنى المكتبة الجامعية، وهذا غير كاف للتواصل بشكل فاعل، بل لابد من وجود مرحلة جوهرية بين مراحل التصميم لمواقع المكتبات الجامعية، ومدى تلبيته لمتطلبات واحتياجات المستفيدين. الدراسة اعتمدت كما يتضح من عنوانها، كما أتبعت في منهجها على تقسيم وسائل جمع البيانات فيها إلى جزأين هما (المهام، الاستبانة)، أشارت النتائج الأولية إلى أن موقع مكتبة جامعة أم القرى يتميز بمعدلات مقبولة من الفعالية، وسهولة الاستخدام، بالإضافة إلى وجود مشاكل الاستخدامية بوجود نظام بحث غير دقيق وغير ذلك، وفي الختام تم تقديم توصيات لمعالجة ذلك.
It is certain for academic libraries that obtaining a place on the Web is not the final step but rather testing the usability of their sites is a critical step in the cycle of the Web design process. Since the ultimate goal of any academic library websites is to please the information needs of their users, hence evaluating how useful these academic libraries Websites is indispensable. This study used the formal usability test as its prime tool to answer the research questions regarding the effectiveness, efficiency, ease of use, and satisfaction. The study followed the qualitative research case studies and divided its data collection instrument into task part and questionnaire part. Findings of the study indicated that Umm Al-Qura University Library Website holds positive indicators to some degree in respect to the research questions. Nonetheless, there are some usability problems in the Library website which need to be addressed and altered accordingly. The usability problems include hard searching system, lack of different help forms, poor information organization and presentation, abundance usage of library terminology and ambiguous terms, general design defects, and technical problems. Finally, the study presented some recommendations to overcome the previous usability problems and thus enhance the library website.
