The African coast has become a center of attention for major international players, raising a question on such increasing interest in the region, in particular, and the continent, in general. Does it have to do with its new threats to the world order? Or is it basically related to geo-economic considerations in the current international competition? Or is it both? What are the indications to make the geo-political space of the African coast a security concern for regional and international powers? To what extent does this area constitute a menace to these powers? One of the ways to understand the rising concern since the mid 1990s is its shift to a producer of and passage for a number of threats and bio-materials. Therefore, main powers sought radical solutions for regional disputes. The above analysis agrees with the new theories counting on building peace or looking for forms and concepts of security. On the one hand, if the problems of minorities and ethnicities are not solved in a comprehensive, multi-levelled way which truly prioritizes development, the situation is expected to be more complicated. On the other hand, the resources of the region are receiving increasing initiatives, due to the fierce competition by industrialized countries, whose energy and transportation requirements represent a higher political interest in terms of the realistic school.
